News from Southern territory

In June 2013, the IAM celebrated it’s 125th year anniversary with a visit to our birthplace, Atlanta, GA. In a park in Atlanta, there is a monument to our founder, Thomas Talbot. We visited this monument, and at that time dedicated a plaque to commemorate¬†the 125th anniversary, to be added to the monument.

Well, installation took longer than expected, and took approval from the State of Georgia and the Atlanta Parks Department, but Local Lodge 709 in Marietta (the local that hosted the 125th Anniversary celebration) and LL 709 Vice President Mike Owens made sure the red tape was handled and the job completed. Mike worked with K&R Branding Solutions, who made the plaque, and the city and state, and insured the plaque was also installed with Union labor.

“Many thanks to Mike, Directing Business Representative Perry Gulledge and the members of Local Lodge 709 for ensuring this was completed,” said Southern Territory GVP Mark Blondin. “It’s a great honor and responsibility to be there at our birthplace, and Local Lodge 709 steps up to the challenge every time.”

The Southern Territory is PROUD to be the birthplace of our great Union. Also in Florence, SC is the cemetery where Thomas Talbot is buried, and there’s a monument there, too.
